Weak — demonstrates nothing

The project involved the design of a 12-storey commercial building. The design team used ETABS to model the structure and the design was completed as per Australian standards. My role was to assist the senior engineer with the analysis.

Strong — evidences the element

I developed the ETABS model for the 12-storey moment frame and applied the load combinations from AS/NZS 1170.0. My analysis returned an inter-storey drift of 1/380 under serviceability wind, exceeding the 1/500 limit I had adopted from the client brief. I proposed relocating two columns to shorten the 11.4 m span, hand-checked the revised drift using a portal-frame approximation, and confirmed 1/620 in the updated model. The change was adopted at the design review.

I was responsible for the electrical design of the substation. I prepared the single-line diagram and selected the equipment according to the client requirements and relevant standards.

Strong — evidences the element

I sized the 11 kV feeder for the substation by calculating the maximum demand at 842 A after diversity, then checked three cable options against current rating, voltage drop and fault withstand to AS/NZS 3008. The 300 mm² option met current rating but returned 4.1% voltage drop at full load against my 2.5% target, so I selected 2×185 mm² in parallel, which returned 2.2% and improved the fault withstand margin from 1.1 to 1.6.

Strong — evidences the element

During factory acceptance testing I found that the pressure vessel's hydrostatic test certificate referenced a different serial number from the vessel delivered. The programme was already two weeks late and the site manager asked whether it could be accepted pending paperwork. I declined, documented the discrepancy, and required a witnessed re-test under AS 1210. The re-test passed and delivery slipped four days.
